horizon (self-portrait)
the root of the word ‘repeat’ is the notion of saying again what another has said/ in these works the mouth repeats without speaking, the ritual is the language that speaks of a spiritual connection between ourselves, our surroundings and those we co-exist with/ this ongoing series draws on practices of meditation and repetition/ presented as a collection of landscapes, these unique and small scale compositions are made with the face and hands as the artist focuses his gaze on the horizon/ the work plays with the origins of the word ansichtkaart, a souvenir card that depicts the memory of a view/ in the artists ansichtkaarten, our view is drawn intimately to the inside of the mouth as if the viewer has been invited to see beyond the artist’s skin/ to bite, to scream, to yawn, these images not only hint to varied tales, but also depict the diverse landscape of the body with urgency/
