evolving works - letters & postcards to m van adrichem, r van der lugt, e van rossum and m de winter, 12/12/16-05/04/17, thailand, myanmar, (collective work)
these letters are handmade postcards, forms and photos sent from the artist to van adrichem, van der lugt, van rossum and de winter/ in each correspondence a set of simple instructions is enclosed, along with concepts and experiments which are developed for each of the recipients/ sent in uniquely made envelopes from different locations, the works trace the distance between the artist and acquaintance, a space to build upon, or even break down their relationship/ every envelope bears tell-tale signs of a journey, the scars of travel and the stamps which show the story of origin/ decisions that may seem inconsequential such as the kind of paper used or the print shop chosen are archives of a locatedness, connections to the area or place of situ when the work was made and materials that emerge along the way/ some of the envelopes incorporate a window which exposes light sensitive content as it makes its journey from a to b, where the receiver is then requested to wash the paper/ the water, which is sourced from a domestic or personal space such as a bathroom tap or a drinking glass for example, becomes integral to the ceremony/ the works are later collected by the artist and archived in white boxes, displaying the blurred boundaries between connectedness and control/
