a table as a witness
the table is a witness to the space, an extension of the artist’s body which “sees” even when he is absent/ the table, which is made of the highly reflective material anodized aluminum, mirrors 95% of the incident light in the room creating an uncannily seamless link between the physical world and the mirrored realm/ made to the precise measurements of the artist, the table is also a mirror to his size and stature/ this sets a stage for a performance in which the artist, at moments throughout the day, stays with the objects as a guardian to their contents, talking with those who wish to know more of the story/ inside the boxes are personal memories, concealed, protected and archived/ initially curated in chronological order, the timeline of boxes is changed and determined by the encounters or non-encounters taking place, creating a choreography partly determined by the visitors and the artist/ the boxes are rarely opened, the contents only shared by the artist when the right time arises and a conversation leads to a connection/ the table becomes a witness to the nuances of these interactions, holding a mirror to the small talk and body language of transient exchanges whilst reflecting back the vulnerability of curiosity, urges and decisions made by both the visitors and the artist/
